VCED Privacy Policy

The Victorian Centre for Early Defibrillation, makes every effort to abide by Australia’s National and Information Privacy Principles and is committed to respecting your right to privacy and your right to control the accuracy of your personal information, the purposes for which it is used, and the amount of email you receive from our web site.

This policy covers information that identifies you as an individual. It also covers information from which your identity may be apparent (such as your email address).

If our privacy policy changes in any substantial way, we will draw your attention to our new policy through the publications or services you subscribe to through our web site. We will also identify changes to the privacy policy on this web site.

Your Personal Details and Privacy for "email to a friend"

We are committed to protecting your privacy in all your dealings with us: when you contact us, visit our web site, respond to a survey or evaluation exercise, subscribe to any of our information services, or share your experiences with us.

We only collect personal information from the web site that is needed for or directly related to the functions of our web site in which you are interested — for example, to deliver the information you have requested from us.

We will take all reasonable steps to ensure the personal information we hold about you is relevant, not excessive, accurate, complete and up-to-date.

We protect your details through our computer security systems, and our practices for access to and use of information gained through this web site.

You are welcome to review the information we hold about you by sending a request to the executive director, who's contact details are on the contact page.

We do not require you to give us your name at any time, and you are not required to use your personal name to participate in discussions on our web site.

We do not collect the addresses of anyone to whom you send material through our “email to a friend” facility.

Subscribing.

We never share identifiable information about you with any other organisation, and do not pass our mailing lists on to any other organisation.

While we do send out newsletters and other information on request, we do not spam. Subscriber information is only accessible by the executive director and two of the technical support people, all of whom are familiar with and abide by our privacy policy.

You may withdraw from our mail list services at any time, and every newsletter item we send you will include a reminder of how to do this. If you do not wish to receive further material from Victorian Centre for Early Defibrillation you can:

You will need to give us the email address you used to subscribe in order for us to be able to identify you, as we retain no other identifying information about our subscribers in the mail list.

Personal Views, Comments and Discussion Sections on this Site

When you share your experiences in an online forum, this is a public communication to the site and we may use your post elsewhere in our work.

If you post your email address publicly in the forums, this could result in your receiving unsolicited email from third parties.

Evaluation with your Permission

This web site is very concerned with maintaining a high quality web site service, responsive to the needs of its users. As a consequence, we will be conducting evaluations and surveys from time to time. However, this will only apply to subscribers to the web site, and volunteers who are interested with the topic displayed on the web site. You have the right to opt out of replying to any information or survey requests from the Victorian Centre for Early Defibrillation.

We collect information about web site usage, but do not send out cookies or seek to identify users.

We do ask you to provide anonymous information in some areas when you subscribe to our services, and would appreciate this information to help us be responsive to the needs of our audience and assist us in evaluation of the service we provide. Those items of information identify the category under which you fall (survivor/health care provider etc) and the country in which you live. However, you have the option to choose 'prefer not to disclose' to these questions.

Where you give us information about your experiences or concerns as part of providing feedback to us on information on our web site, or draft information you are contributing your opinion to, we will respect your right to anonymity if you prefer. If we wish to use your experience and you’ve provided it to us in a private communication (letter, fax, email, phone call, survey) we will always seek your permission before we publish it.

Privacy Complaints

We are committed to dealing quickly and appropriately with any complaint you make about your privacy in relation to the Victorian Centre for Early Defibrillation news services or practices. If you are concerned that this privacy policy may have been breached or that your privacy may have been compromised please contact us in writing immediately, setting out your concerns.

Email the executive director and write Privacy Matter in the subject line – please note that email is not a very secure medium for communicating privacy matters.

We will try to work with you to resolve your problem to your satisfaction within three weeks of receiving your complaint. Where it involves a matter that is online, we will attempt to resolve the matter within days if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our handling of your complaint, you can refer it to the Australian Federal Privacy Commissioner.
